Good Monday Morning All,
I’ve been having computer and internet problems since last Monday which prevented me from working on the new & improved MMA so that I could have it ready for this week. So, unfortunately, I’ll have to push it back to February 2nd. Everything should be back on track by then. But the biggest annoyance with my computer problems is that it seriously hindered my Facebook time. My cousin Shauna convinced me to finally sign up a couple weeks ago after I purposely avoided it for a long time. But since signing up, I’ve reconnected with former classmates from high school and college, people from my hometown, family and friends I’ve met along the way. This site can be quite addicting. And I can even log on from my cell phone. I tell ya, technology is somethin'!!
Moving on, my friend Vesta and I went to see the movie “Notorious” on Saturday. Not knowing much about him, I wanted to get an idea of who he was and get a glimpse of how greatly he impacted the hip hop community. I had heard bits and pieces about him in the news back in the day (mainly about his beef with Tupac), but I learned so much more from watching the movie. I was a big fan of hip hop (or rap) music back in the 80’s with Big Daddy Kane, Kurtis Blow, Public Enemy, the Fat Boys, Run D.M.C. and even N.W.A. But a few years before B.I.G. came on the scene, my interest waned and I stopped listening for awhile. The movie had some “raw” moments (as Vesta put it), but I learned a lot about his life and what he meant to hip hop. Now I’m interested in seeing a movie about Tupac since I know very little about him as well. If you saw the movie this weekend, I’d like to know what you think.
And finally, I have three words: IT’S FINALLY HERE! And I can hardly believe it. Tomorrow will mark one of the most historical and significant events of our lifetime. It is the day that Barack Obama, an African American, will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. Wow. Can you believe it? And even though I won’t actually be there, I am just as excited and proud as I’m sure those attending will be. Millions are expected to be on hand to take part in the scheduled events. First, there’s the inauguration. Next, there’s the parade. And then it’s party time!! I’ve heard about so many parties and inaugural balls taking place all weekend thru inauguration night. I don’t think DC will ever be the same. And you know what would make it the most wonderfullest, perfect day??? They should let New Edition sing the Black National Anthem at the inauguration ceremony. And yes, that includes Bobby if he decides to act right. Just a suggestion. Anyway, when the party’s over, I hope President Obama is able to get a fairly decent amount of sleep. Because come Wednesday morning, he’s got a lot of work to do. I’m optimistic about the direction in which he’s going to take this country, our country. And I am willing to do my part in helping to bring about change in my community through his “Organizing for America” movement (http://my.barackobama.com/future). This is truly an extraordinary moment in time. And I’m certain that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be pleased to know that his hard work for civil rights and equality paved the way for this occasion. Happy Birthday MLK.
Also, Happy Birthday to my e-buddies celebrating birthdays this week: Tihida S. (1/20) and Jose B. (1/23).
Enjoy the funnies and have a blessed week.
