Good Monday Morning All,
I hope everyone had a gr-r-r-reat weekend. This was definitely a great one for me. I met some new friends, caught up with some old ones and I’m excited about some new opportunities that have come my way. I took a little trip this weekend and was oddly entertained by what sounded like the roar of an old rusty jet plane engine, but was actually just some really loud snoring. I must really love my friends to put up with that, especially since I don’t snore. At least that’s the claim that I make since I’ve never heard myself snore. But of course, the person who says they don’t snore is usually the one that does it the loudest. So….I will admit that I snore a little teeny tiny bit every now and then. Hey, what can I say? I get it from my daddy. But enough talk about snoring. It’s making me sleepy.
Last night after their performance with Stevie Wonder on the Grammy Awards, I’m coming forward to declare that I am a newly converted fan of the Jonas Brothers. Those guys can rock! And what’s really “neato” is that they’re brothers. You don’t see that too often, do you? I guess if they can sing with Stevie Wonder and their biggest fans are the Obama girls, they must be pretty cool, right? And speaking of cool music (please excuse the clumsy segue way), this is the time of year when we celebrate the contributions that African Americans have made to the history of America. And when you think about pioneers of music, names like Duke Ellington, Mahalia Jackson and Marian Anderson come to mind. But I was wondering – fifty years from now, who from our generation will we recognize as a pioneer in music? Well, I have someone I’d like you all to consider. His name is Tay Zonday. It may not be a household name right now, but I believe that he will go down in the history books someday for his uplifting little ditty that gets stuck in your head immediately from the first time you hear it. First, there was “Purple Rain” from Prince. Then came “Candy Rain” by Soul for Real. And now comes Tay with “Chocolate Rain.” I came across the video on YouTube last year sometime. And what really amused me was the fact that there’s this BIG voice coming out of this small frame. He sounds like he could have a great career as a voiceover artist for movie trailers. Or maybe just play “Mini Me” to James Earl Jones. Anyway, it’s such a catchy tune. If you haven’t done so yet, check out the video on Youtube (Chocolate Rain Video). And I guarantee that you’ll be singing it to yourself before the week is out.
And finally, this past weekend Cupid and his woman got into a rather nasty argument. Cupid got really upset, stormed out of the house and went to a friend’s house to cool off. While he was gone, his girl took ALL of his bows & arrows, packed them inside his Mercedes Benz and set it on fire! Needless to say, he was furious about it and told her that she had to leave or else he would press charges against her. So this year, Cupid is pretty bitter about love and Valentine’s Day. But since he gets paid VERY well by the candy, flowers and cards industries to work only one day a year, he knew that the show must go on. Instead of shooting arrows with his bow, he’ll be flinging heart shaped water balloons with a big slingshot. So if you happen to see any couples on Valentine’s Day who look like they’ve been playing in the rain, they probably just got hit by Cupid. And make sure you keep your eyes open ‘cause you could be next! Just keep in mind that he is still bitter, so the hit may sting a little. Happy Valentine’s Day!
I have no birthdays this week. Make sure I have your birthday if you want a shout-out. Enjoy the funnies and have a blessed week!
